Customized Professional Development Programs

We work with schools and districts to understand the needs and realities of science classrooms and then develop customized, sustainable programs to meet defined goals. Learn more about BSCS PD from one of our current programs at The Dalton School.

Scientific Instructional Learning Teams (SILT) – Jefferson County Public Schools, Louisville, Kentucky

BSCS is working with teachers in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS):

  • through the development of curriculum support documents that embed opportunities for students to write and discuss their scientific understandings;
  • through the development of professional learning opportunities that focus on analyzing teacher practice and student artifacts to inform teacher practice;
  • through the development of video-cases that articulate best practices around supporting student meaning making of science; and
  • by supporting (through coaching) the growth of the future district and teacher leaders of JCPS.

This is a two-year program that supports both middle and high school science teachers.
